Homework
For students in middle and senior secondary school homework is a constant part of school life.
Most schools have a homework policy which clearly sets out how much homework is appropriate for each year level. Students in year 11 for example are expected to complete more homework than students in year 9. Make sure that you know what the homework policy is for your year level. Some schools will also issue a homework timetable which indicates to students the subjects that are to be studied on particular nights of the week.
As you progress through your secondary schooling the amount of homework given will increase. The secret to homework is organisation and routine. When homework is given, make sure that you carefully record all of the details. Use your school diary to mark due dates. Allocate regular homework times so that it becomes routine.
Some students like to spend a few hours after school playing sport or relaxing in some other way. Study at home could begin at 7.00pm and finish at 9.00 or 10.00 depending on your age. Time on weekends should also be allocated. Regular homework time makes it easier to complete the work that you have been given on time and to a good standard. Australian secondary schools recognise homework as an important part of a student’s total learning experience. It is time to revise and consolidate knowledge.
Share your homework tips or traps.
