Examinations – coming soon!
June 1st not only marks the middle of the school term, but for secondary students it is the time to begin preparations towards mid-year examinations. It is time to reflect on what you have learned and review your progress. Now is the time to prepare a revision timetable and begin the process of consolidating your learning.
To do this well you need to review each subject and list the topics that have been taught from the beginning of the year. Identify those which you found difficult and those that you feel comfortable with. A good revision program must allow time to review all past learning but there will be some areas that need more attention than others.
Identifying strengths and weaknesses is an important study skill. Establish a timetable which includes revision time for all subjects; this means increasing your study commitment each week. It may seem a difficult task but the smallest increase in your study time will make a difference to your examination performance. Planning well ahead means you have the time to clarify things you are not sure about with your teachers. It provides opportunity to review questions and plan answers.
All this preparation builds confidence and helps you to approach the examination with a positive attitude. If you are a tennis player, a soccer player or a musician you know that the only way to improve is to practice. Examinations are no different. If you want to achieve a good result you must prepare and practice.
