About the materials

Over the past decade more and more schools have welcomed international student enrollments. This has precipitated significant growth in the demand for ESL teaching in secondary schools. While the number of international students is still relatively small in many schools, there is an obvious need for ESL teaching not only to develop English language skills but also to reinforce and support student learning in all subject areas across the secondary curriculum.

As more and more students enter the secondary system in South Australia with a view to securing university placements, ESL becomes an increasingly important part of their learning experience and underpins each individual student's opportunity for success.

The following pages contain information intended to provide assistance for teachers and students.
